- While we continue to educate adults about the dangers of smoking, with
- some positive results, it may well be that we are losing the battle where
- teenagers are concerned. According to a fact sheet issued by the American
- Academy of Pediatrics, more than 3,000 teenagers become regular smokers each
- DAY in the United States, adding up to more than one million adolescents who
- start smoking each year. And the sooner they start, the sooner they die.
- Smokers who start before the age of 15 have cancer rates 19 times higher than
- nonsmokers.
- Concerned with the growing number of U.S. teens who smoke and the
- additional growing number of teens who start smoking every day, the American
- Academy of Pediatrics wants you to have its new brochure, "Smoking: Guidelines
- for Teens". It may be just the information both you and your teenager need to
- stop the smoking habit before it gets your youngster in its clutches. It is
- easy to obtain and it is free. Send your request, along with a stamped,
- self-addressed business size envelope to: Teen Smoking, Dept. C, American
- Academy of Pediatrics, P.O. Box 927, Elk Grove Village, IL 60009-0927. This
- is not an offer you can refuse!
